Survivor’s 24th edition finished filming in Samoa in September 2011, and already details are beginning to leak about the season’s newest twists and castaways. A long-time Survivor Sucks poster, ‘castaway208’, has provided most of these details.
Survivor: One World
As reported by ‘castaway208’, the title of Survivor 24 is Survivor: One World, a name that is apparently based on the season’s major twist (SurvivorSucks.com, October 2011). This was verified with the discovery of a crew member’s resume, which referred to the season with the same title. The entry has since been removed from the resume (Jo Oosthuizen, BigJoCam.com, September 2011).
It is believed that the two tribes will be split by gender lines, but that both tribes will live on the same beach. “I think the idea is that they want the tribes to mix and it would be way to hard for the average viewer to keep up with who is on what tribe if they were both mixed,” ‘castaway208’ explained here.
While this will be the third time the season begins with men vs. women (the first time since 2004), it will be the first time that both tribes have lived on one beach from the start. In two seasons (Palau and Fiji), contestants lived together before being divided into tribes, but were put on separate beaches once tribes were formed.
Will Redemption Island Return?
According to ‘castaway208’, Survivor: One World will not see the return of Redemption Island, a twist which has featured prominently into the past two seasons of Survivor. Also, for the first time in a year, no previous Survivor contestants will return to the game either (SurvivorSucks.com, October 2011).
Survivor 24 Contestants
‘Castaway208’ has released information about four of the 18 Survivor: One World castaways.
Nina Acosta is a former LAPD officer who successfully sued the department for gender discrimination when she was twice denied the opportunity to be part of the SWAT team (Joel Rubin, LA Times, March 29, 2008).
Troy “Troyzan” Robertson is a 50 year-old photographer from Miami, Florida. A huge fan of Survivor since the first season, Robertson has been trying for years to get on the show and has come close to making the final cut several times.
Colton Cumbie, 20, is an openly gay student from Alabama. Like Robertson, he is also a devoted Survivor fan. Cumbie applied to the show via the Sears Online Casting Call Contest.
Another contestant is a single mother from Austin, Texas who works as a motorcycle mechanic. Her name is Kourtney Moon (SurvivorSucks.com, October 2011).
Another reputed spoiler site, True Dork Times, has also unveiled one of the new contestants: Christina Cha, a business recruiter/journalist from Los Angeles, California.
When to Watch
Survivor: One World will debut sometime in February 2012 on CBS. Until then, be sure to catch Survivor: South Pacific, airing Wednesdays at 8:00 pm on CBS.
