The 2010-2011 television season has a treat in store for fans of NBC’s The Apprentice: not one, but two editions of the popular Mark Burnett reality series that pits business people against one another to win a job with Donald Trump. One of those editions is a regular season, the first to feature regular business people since The Apprentice: LA in 2007, while the other is yet another celebrity edition, which will feature stars competing to win money for their favorite charities rather than a job with Trump.
The 2010 Apprentice
The seventh edition of The Apprentice will feature 16 contestants, all of whom have been affected to some degree by the latest recession. An NBC press release from March 2010 states that the contestants will be drawn from three areas of life: “ talented and bright prospects who have lost their jobs with no hope in sight, people who are currently holding down jobs they don't like just to make ends meet and recent college graduates who currently have few if any prospects.”
Keeping with its new theme of giving talented business people a second chance at the job market, this season’s winning project managers will win one-on-one meetings with successful business leaders who will offer them tips and guidance to help them in their future careers. As always, the candidates are after one thing though: a job working with the Trump Organization and the six-figure salary that comes along with it.
Celebrity Apprentice 4
The fourth edition of The Celebrity Apprentice is only in early stages of development; therefore, very little information is known at this time. Despite this, numerous rumors have popped up as to who may or may not be competing on the upcoming season.
Back in June 2010, People Magazine reported that Lindsay Lohan had been approached by Donald Trump himself about appearing on the show. Lohan’s mother Dina indicated that Lindsay was asked because Donald Trump was a friend of the family, but she wasn’t sure that her daughter could do the show because of other commitments (and because she was wearing a monitoring bracelet that prevented her from leaving Los Angeles). Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan also hinted that he was being considered for the series, possibly as a back-up in case Lindsay was unable to participate. With Lohan going to jail on July 20, 2010, it seems certain that her appearance on Celebrity Apprentice will not happen.
Another potential contestant who lost her opportunity to appear on the show is Rachel Uchitel, best known as one of the mistresses of gold pro Tiger Woods. Like Lindsay Lohan, Uchitel was offered a spot on the show by Trump, who apparently told her she’d be “awesome.” But when Uchitel announced she’d be appearing on Celebrity Rehab, Trump told TMZ.com, “It’s a terrible decision. We have zero interest in her now.”
On July 6, 2010, Hollywood Life reported that Donald Trump wanted Bachelor stars and former fiances Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi to appear on the show – together! After a very public and hostile break-up, it’s unclear whether the pair would ever agree to participate, especially since it appears that the deal is only on the table if they go on it together.
Currently unconfirmed is a report by The New York Times that rocker Meat Loaf is in advanced talks to appear on The Celebrity Apprentice. The third season of the popular reality show was won by rocker Bret Michaels.
